About the position

The General Manager (GM) position at HMSHost is responsible for managing a Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) or a small cluster of restaurants, ensuring high operational and financial standards are met. The GM oversees staffing, training, and daily operations, while also focusing on employee engagement and customer satisfaction. This role requires strong leadership skills and the ability to make strategic decisions to drive the success of the restaurant, with sales generally up to $5 million.

Responsibilities

  • Open and close the restaurant, ensuring all procedures are followed for a smooth operation.
  • Deploy staff and resources effectively to maximize profitability and accept P&L responsibility.
  • Conduct interviews and make hiring decisions for restaurant associates, promoting HMSHost as an employer of choice.
  • Ensure compliance with company diversity and inclusion policies within the restaurant.
  • Monitor financial and operational data to meet unit goals and assign tasks to associates accordingly.
  • Recognize and reward restaurant staff for their contributions and performance.
  • Manage product availability and oversee supply chain issues, ensuring appropriate stock levels.
  • Maintain restaurant equipment and schedule routine service or repairs as needed.
  • Conduct training and development activities for restaurant associates to enhance their skills.
  • Implement marketing programs and promotional activities to drive revenue.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of restaurant P&L management experience.
  • 5-7 years of overall working restaurant experience in QSR, Casual Dine, or Full Service environments.
  • Graduation from a Food Service Management or Culinary program may substitute for some experience requirements.
  • Demonstrated team management, delegation, and issue resolution skills.
  • Ability to speak, read, and comprehend instructions and policy documents.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in managing union and non-union restaurants.
  • Knowledge of HMSHost policies and products.
