About the position

The General Manager at Applebee's is responsible for overseeing the restaurant's operations, ensuring a high standard of service, and fostering a positive work environment. This role involves managing staff performance, maintaining compliance with health and safety regulations, and driving sales through community engagement and effective management practices.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the restaurant environment to ensure prompt and friendly service according to company guidelines.
  • Build a culture using the Vision/Mission Statement to guide teamwork and service excellence.
  • Respond to and correct verbal guest complaints promptly, referring written complaints to the Area Director.
  • Ensure guest contact is prioritized with a target goal of 100% table visitation.
  • Teach and enforce alcohol awareness and maintain positive relationships with local authorities.
  • Maintain adequate inventory levels and ensure product preparation meets company standards.
  • Participate in community activities to increase sales and brand awareness.
  • Implement and execute incentive contests and educate associates on promotions and new menu offerings.
  • Oversee and schedule associates to meet sales demands effectively.
  • Maintain safety and security programs according to company policy and government standards.
  • Promote restaurant organization, cleanliness, and sanitation.
  • Institute preventative maintenance of the building and equipment, correcting repairs as needed.
  • Communicate daily with other managers through management logs and shift change meetings.
  • Complete all other assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Ensure quality recruitment and referrals of potential management candidates.
  • Adhere to and promote A.S.I. training procedures for new managers.
  • Maintain a trained staff through effective orientation and training sessions.
  • Develop an environment of constant development for managers with regular reviews and evaluations.
  • Assess associate effectiveness and provide regular feedback for development.
  • Ensure correct staffing levels and conduct thorough interviews for new associates.
  • Ensure exit interviews for all terminating associates are conducted.
  • Demonstrate proper execution of training systems and emphasize its importance to staff.
  • Document situations that require disciplinary or corrective action for associates.
  • Conduct weekly management meetings and quarterly employee meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and communicate changes to associates.
  • Ensure timely performance evaluations for all associates and act as a coach.
  • Complete administrative and accounting duties promptly and properly.
  • Maintain and control company assets and ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Ensure the restaurant meets or exceeds operating budgets and manage service contracts.
  • Monitor capital expenditures and analyze systems for continual improvement.
  • Ensure adherence to cash handling procedures and perform weekly inventory analyses.
  • Prepare and submit accurate daily, weekly, and monthly paperwork to the Area Director.
  • Inspire cooperation and teamwork among management and associates by promoting the mission/vision statement.
  • Complete assignments and duties properly and on schedule, developing personal/professional growth goals.

Requirements

  • Must have an Associate's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to work at any duty station in the kitchen or service area when needed.
  • Must be able to lift objects up to 40 pounds on occasion.
