About the position

The General Manager for the Veterans Canteen Service at the Prescott, AZ VA Medical Center is responsible for overseeing all aspects of canteen operations, including retail, food service, and personnel management. This role requires a strong focus on service and hospitality, with an emphasis on achieving financial goals and implementing program objectives. The position is ideal for candidates with multi-unit management experience and a passion for serving Veterans and their families.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all areas of canteen operations including retail, food, vending, and sales.
• Manage personnel and administrative controls related to canteen operations.
• Ensure compliance with inventory controls, stock schedules, food safety, and sanitation.
• Develop and implement promotional programs to enhance sales and customer engagement.
• Achieve financial goals and implement program objectives as established by VCSCO and/or Region Manager.

Requirements

• Minimum of 3-5 years of direct food/retail management experience.
• Experience with inventory management, supply cost and shrinkage controls, and P&L management.
• Proven track record of building sales, increasing profits, and staff development.
• Ability to assess business needs and problem-solve effectively.
• Hands-on leadership with a strong focus on service and hospitality.
• Proficient in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, etc.) and experience with POS systems.
• ServSafe certification required or to be obtained within 90 days of hire.

• Associate Degree in Business, Hospitality, or Management preferred.
