About the position

As a General Manager at SONIC Drive-In, you will play a pivotal role in leading your team to deliver an exceptional food service experience. This position is not just about managing a restaurant; it's about creating a vibrant atmosphere where employees and customers alike feel valued and engaged. You will be responsible for training and supporting your team, ensuring that food is served in a clean, safe, and efficient manner, and that every customer leaves with a smile. Your leadership will inspire your team to uphold the highest standards of service and operational excellence. In this role, you will manage, train, monitor, and coach Crew/Team members, Carhops, and Skating Carhops. You will direct and assign tasks to ensure that all aspects of food service meet operational standards. Adhering to the employee handbook and monitoring compliance will be crucial in maintaining a positive work environment. You will also perform restaurant opening and closing duties, prepare employee work schedules, and make necessary adjustments to staffing levels based on operational needs. Inventory management will be another key responsibility, as you will monitor and maintain inventory levels, placing orders for food, paper, and other supplies while adhering to cost control procedures. You will complete and maintain all employment-related records and payroll records, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies. Customer service is at the heart of this position. You will reinforce a customer service mentality among your employees, ensuring that they are focused on serving customers at all times. You will handle guest requests and complaints with respect and urgency, reporting any issues to your supervisor and assisting in their resolution. Additionally, you will be involved in the hiring process, interviewing and selecting restaurant crew and management team members to achieve optimal staffing levels. To drive the restaurant's success, you will prepare operational reports and develop action plans to address any unfavorable financial or sales trends. Implementing a marketing plan will also be part of your responsibilities, ensuring that the restaurant remains competitive and appealing to customers.

Responsibilities

  • Manages, trains, monitors and coaches Crew/ Team members, Carhops and Skating Carhops
  • Directs and assigns drive-in restaurant employees as needed to ensure all aspects of food service meet operational standards
  • Adheres to and monitors employee compliance of the drive-in employee handbook, policies and practices
  • Performs restaurant opening and/or closing duties
  • Prepares employee work schedules; monitors and makes appropriate adjustments to restaurant staffing levels
  • Monitors and maintains restaurant inventory levels. Places orders for food, paper and other supplies within cost control procedures
  • Completes and maintains all drive-in restaurant employment related records and payroll records
  • Reinforces a customer service mentality and ensures all employees are focused on serving the customer at all times
  • Immediately and respectfully resolves guest requests. Reports guest complaints to immediate supervisor and assists in resolving such complaints
  • Interview and hire restaurant crew and management team members to achieve proper staffing levels
  • Prepare all necessary operational reports. Develop appropriate action plans to resolve unfavorable financial and/or sales trends
  • Develop and implement a marketing plan

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Advanced studies in business, restaurant management or related fields are preferred
  • Minimum of two (2) years of restaurant management experience (QSR preferred)
  • Experience running shifts without supervision
  • Required to work a minimum 5 day workweek with 4 closing shifts (or 4 day workweek guaranteed) including irregular hours, nights, weekends and holidays
  • Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing and selection practices
  • Knowledge of federal and state labor laws as well as local health and sanitation laws and regulations
  • Leadership and supervisory practices and skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic accounting and computer skills
  • Ability to follow directions and work with autonomy once given directions
  • Ability to multi-task and successfully solve problems
  • Problem solving, decision-making and conflict-resolution skills
