About the position

The General Manager is responsible for overseeing the operations of a facility generating up to $19 million in revenue. This role involves setting strategic direction, providing leadership, and ensuring effective and profitable operations while maintaining high production standards and a sound risk management program. The General Manager will also promote employee relations and corporate image, manage resources efficiently, and facilitate business expansion.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, control and direct the activities of facility operations.
  • Set strategic direction for Facility Manager(s) and corresponding facilities.
  • Provide leadership to ensure positive employee/employer relations.
  • Promote and manage effective and profitable operations and resource management.
  • Sustain a productive and motivated workforce through hiring, training, and evaluating personnel.
  • Adhere to wage and hour laws and compensate personnel accordingly.
  • Establish high appearance standards for all employees.
  • Ensure safe working conditions and implement a Safety Program.
  • Plan and route collection services to optimize personnel and equipment usage.
  • Implement corporate guidelines for Preventive Maintenance to reduce downtime and costs.
  • Develop and implement a cost control program for supplies and services.
  • Establish production standards for operations phases.
  • Promote an accident prevention program to reduce claims and injuries.
  • Enter payroll into the system bi-weekly.
  • Ensure Operations Supervisors utilize the Full Route Roll-Off Dispatch system.
  • Utilize Route Smart system for optimized compaction routes.
  • Conduct annual route audits for commercial and residential services.
  • Perform semi-annual Roll Off account profitability analysis.
  • Ensure a purchase order system is used for all purchases.
  • Review profit and loss statements monthly and adjust as necessary.
  • Develop an operations profit plan including income sources and cost of operations.
  • Partner with Sales Manager to develop sales forecasts for products/services.
  • Establish pricing guidelines for products/services.
  • Promote a strong customer focus throughout the operation.
  • Manage the sales force to meet objectives and establish priorities.
  • Seek growth opportunities in assigned market areas.
  • Identify trends impacting service quality or profit margins.
  • Establish a system for reviewing and negotiating contracts.
  • Participate in local civic affairs and represent the company positively.
  • Conform to applicable laws and company policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from a four-year college or university or equivalent experience.
  • Five or more years of experience in the waste industry or equivalent operational environment.
  • Working knowledge of equipment for waste collection, processing, or disposal.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and management skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 10 pounds regularly and up to 20 pounds occasionally.
