About the position

The General Manager (GM) at HMSHost is responsible for overseeing the operations of a Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) or a small cluster of restaurants, ensuring they meet high operational and financial standards. The GM plays a crucial role in managing staff, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring the restaurant is open for business. This position requires strong leadership skills and the ability to make decisions that contribute to the overall success of the restaurant, with sales generally up to $5 million.

Responsibilities

  • Open and close the restaurant, ensuring all staff understand the importance of these processes.
  • Deploy staff and resources to maximize profitability and accept P&L responsibility.
  • Assign work tasks, prepare schedules, and ensure all shifts are covered.
  • Provide consistent support, coaching, and encouragement to restaurant staff to achieve business goals.
  • Interview candidates and make hiring, termination, and promotion decisions for associates.
  • Promote HMSHost as an employer of choice within the local community.
  • Ensure compliance with onboarding and offboarding processes for all restaurant associates.
  • Monitor financial and operational data to track progress towards unit goals.
  • Recognize and motivate restaurant staff for their contributions and performance.
  • Ensure product availability and oversee receiving goods and processing invoices.
  • Maintain restaurant equipment and schedule routine service or repairs as needed.
  • Conduct training and education activities for restaurant associates.
  • Implement marketing programs and drive revenue through promotional activities.
  • Maintain compliance with health and safety standards and train staff accordingly.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of management experience in a restaurant setting.
  • Proven profit and loss management skills.
  • Experience in team management and leadership.
  • Senior level restaurant experience, preferably in QSR or similar environments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Graduation from a Food Service Management or Culinary program may substitute for some experience requirements.
  • Knowledge of HMSHost policies and products.
