About the position

The General Manager (GM) at Ulta Beauty is responsible for leading a retail store to achieve top-line sales growth while embodying the company's mission, vision, and values. This role involves managing a team of managers and associates, focusing on performance, people development, and process excellence to drive profitability and enhance the guest experience.

Responsibilities

  • Promote a culture of accountability to meet or exceed sales and service goals.
  • Drive company profitability through operational excellence and expense control.
  • Leverage store forecasts and payroll budgets to maximize productivity.
  • Address issues identified by financial and operational reporting to achieve store goals.
  • Perform makeup applications and product demonstrations to enhance guest service.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and products to better serve guests.
  • Maintain regular attendance and hold associates accountable to attendance policies.
  • Attract, hire, and retain a diverse team of top talent.
  • Address policy violations with appropriate corrective action.
  • Build a highly engaged team through effective collaboration and communication.
  • Create an inclusive environment that encourages growth and engagement.
  • Lead manager and associate development through training and feedback.
  • Participate in ongoing training for continuous professional development.
  • Model open communication by sharing enterprise strategy with direct reports.
  • Promote teamwork by establishing priorities and providing clear direction.
  • Execute the Guest Engagement Leader program to drive business results.
  • Ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty's policies and standards.
  • Adhere to and enforce the company's dress code.
  • Use scheduling tools to optimize associate placement and guest experience.
  • Protect company assets and minimize loss through compliance with operating procedures.
  • Execute inventory control processes and complete theft reporting as necessary.
  • Support continuous improvement by influencing the adoption of company initiatives.
  • Communicate with field leadership on business trends and operational challenges.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 3-5+ years of fast-paced retail management experience.
  • Proven success in driving top-line sales and managing payroll budgets.
  • Experience in monitoring inventory levels and achieving operational excellence.
  • Ability to attract, develop, and motivate top talent.
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient with basic technology, including Point of Sale systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks.
