About the position

The General Manager at Barnes & Noble College is responsible for overseeing a bookstore or a group of bookstores with annual sales exceeding $6 million. This role focuses on building relationships within the campus community, ensuring operational excellence, and maximizing sales through effective management and merchandising. The General Manager will lead a team, drive customer satisfaction, and implement business strategies to enhance bookstore loyalty and profitability.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all aspects of the store's operations, including financial results, merchandising, and customer service.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with the campus community and corporate partners.
• Train, direct, and counsel team members to enhance customer experiences and bookstore loyalty.
• Execute business strategies to drive sales and increase customer satisfaction.
• Manage visual merchandising standards and inventory levels to ensure merchandise availability.
• Analyze sales figures and forecast future sales to manage costs and maintain profitability.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety standards and implement loss prevention measures.
• Foster a fair workplace environment and encourage team member feedback.

Requirements

• 7+ years of supervisory experience in a retail setting preferred or a graduate of the Best Seller Program.
• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or a relevant field preferred.
• Leadership experience to direct and develop a workforce of managers and sales associates.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Familiarity with financial and customer service principles.
• Basic reading, writing, and accounting skills required.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills needed.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
