Safety is a top priority, and the mechanic must adhere to safety precautions such as lockout and tag-out procedures. In this role, the mechanic will utilize their knowledge and ability to use the required tools to complete assigned tasks safely and effectively. They will be responsible for acquiring and returning tools to their correct locations in good operating condition, as well as maintaining good housekeeping practices by cleaning up the work area after each task. The mechanic is expected to keep their work area, shop, and vehicles neat and organized, contributing to a professional environment. Customer service is also a key component of this position. The mechanic will provide cooperative and courteous service to visitors, patients, staff, vendors, and co-workers, embodying the organization's commitment to quality services. Teamwork is essential, and the mechanic will work collaboratively with other trades, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and electronic teams, to ensure that all work is completed efficiently. The mechanic will be responsible for locating and ordering appropriate parts and supplies for repairs and maintenance activities as needed. They will follow up on orders for arrival times and ensure that parts are taken to the appropriate storage locations upon arrival. Time management is crucial, and the mechanic will utilize a work order system to track activities and time, ensuring that all work orders are created and completed correctly with clear comments on work performed. Training is an important aspect of this role, and the mechanic will complete assigned training as well as unassigned training or cross-training to prepare for various tasks. They will assist in training others on the team and complete assigned preventive maintenance tasks in a timely manner. The mechanic may also perform painting tasks as assigned and respond to all applicable disasters and drills, understanding fire, disaster, and safety procedures relevant to their work area. Overall, the General Mechanic will perform similar or related duties as assigned, contributing to the overall maintenance and operation of Parrish Healthcare's facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance work necessary to move, install, repair or erect all types of hospital equipment.
  • Interpret mechanical requirements and calculate necessary dimensions using prints, sketches, manuals, or instructions.
  • Follow necessary safety precautions such as lockout and tag-out procedures.
  • Use the required tools to complete assigned tasks safely and effectively.
  • Acquire and return tools to the correct locations in good operating condition.
  • Observe good housekeeping practices and clean up the work area after each task.
  • Keep work area, shop, and vehicles neat and organized.
  • Provide cooperative and courteous service to visitors, patients, staff, vendors, and co-workers.
  • Locate and order appropriate parts and supplies for repairs and maintenance activities as needed.
  • Follow up on orders for arrival times and ensure parts are stored correctly upon arrival.
  • Utilize good time management practices and communicate with the team to bundle work orders when going off-site.
  • Utilize a work order system to track activities and time, creating and completing work orders correctly.
  • Complete assigned training and assist in training others on the team.
  • Complete assigned preventive maintenance tasks in a timely manner.
  • Perform repairs in various areas such as plumbing, minor electrical, carpentry, drywall, etc.
  • Understand and respond to all applicable disasters and drills, knowing fire, disaster, and safety procedures.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in a similar role.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License with an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) for insurance purposes.
