About the position

The General Merchandise Expert at Target plays a crucial role in ensuring a consistent and welcoming shopping experience for guests. This position focuses on operations, process efficiency, and product management across the store, including inventory accuracy, pricing, and promotional signing. The expert is responsible for leading various processes related to General Merchandise and Food Sales, ensuring that products are in stock, accurately priced, and presented well on the sales floor. This role also emphasizes guest service, teamwork, and the development of skills for a career in retail.

Responsibilities

• Create a welcoming experience by authentically greeting all guests
• Observe to quickly understand whether a guest needs assistance or wants to interact
• Engage with guests in a genuine way, asking questions to better understand their specific needs
• Be knowledgeable about the tools, products, and services available in the store to solve issues for guests
• Thank guests genuinely and let them know we're happy they chose to shop at Target
• Ensure sales floor is zoned, in stock, and accurately signed and priced for guests
• Acknowledge guests while completing workload with minimal disruption
• Execute inbound, replenishment, backroom, and signing processes for GM areas
• Execute processes including pricing, presentation sets, and inventory accuracy as directed by leadership
• Understand how operational procedures impact shortage, profitability, and inventory accuracy
• Operate power equipment only if certified
• Follow processes accurately with attention to detail and monitor own progress
• Demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, safety, and compliance
• Work safely at all times and identify and correct hazards
• Support guest services such as back-up cashier and digital fulfillment processes
• Perform other duties based on business needs

Requirements

• Ability to communicate on multiple frequency devices and operate handheld scanners
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Capability to resolve guest questions quickly on the spot
• Attention to detail and ability to follow multi-step processes

• Ability to accomplish multiple tasks within established timeframes
• Accurate handling of cash register operations as needed
• Ability to climb up and down ladders
• Ability to scan, handle, and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including lifting up to 44 pounds
• Flexible work schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
• Reliable and prompt attendance
