About the position

The General Merchandise Team Leader at Target is responsible for ensuring a consistent and efficient shopping experience for guests by overseeing various operational processes within the store. This role involves leading a team to manage product availability, pricing, inventory accuracy, and guest service, while also fostering a culture of inclusivity and safety. The position requires strong leadership skills and the ability to adapt to a fast-paced retail environment.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a service culture that prioritizes the guest service experience.
  • Execute daily/weekly workload to deliver on department and store sales goals and guest engagement.
  • Help lead the understanding of operational procedures and their impact on profitability and inventory accuracy.
  • Empower the team to create a consistent experience for guests.
  • Assess reporting to identify gaps in processes and assist in developing a resolution plan.
  • Be an expert in operations, accuracy, process, and efficiency.
  • Help with execution of processes in inbound, outbound, replenishment, and promotional signing.
  • Lead pick, pack, and ship fulfillment work as applicable.
  • Work with Closing teams to ensure the store is guest ready.
  • Create a scheduling plan based on business workload and guest traffic.
  • Enable team members to stay up-to-date on relevant trends and products.
  • Evaluate candidates for open positions and develop a guest-centric team.
  • Lead team onboarding and training to close knowledge gaps.
  • Establish clear goals and expectations for team members.
  • Help lead and coach the team to ensure accuracy and efficiency in all GM processes.
  • Work a schedule that aligns with guest and business needs, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
  • Assess Fulfillment business and make decisions to help teams fulfill guest orders accurately and efficiently.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Create a safety advocacy culture and hold the team accountable for safety practices.
  • Support guest services such as back-up cashier and digital fulfillment processes.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Age 18 or older.
  • Previous retail experience preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to lead and hold others accountable.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Capability to remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment.
  • Welcoming and helpful attitude.
  • Ability to manage workload and prioritize tasks independently.

  • Experience in retail management or leadership roles.
