About the position

The General Merchandise Technician at Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC) is responsible for managing the inventory and sales of general merchandise in the LLCC Bookstore. This role involves purchasing, stocking, and organizing products to meet the needs of students, faculty, and staff. The technician will also collaborate on marketing strategies to enhance customer engagement and retention, ensuring a well-stocked and appealing bookstore environment.

Responsibilities

  • Research, order, proof, process, and stock general merchandise including school logo clothing, art and office supplies, electronics, snacks, and drinks.
  • Meet with and negotiate with vendors and sales representatives regarding pricing, quantity, shipping, returns, and problem resolution.
  • Consult with faculty on supply requirements for courses, including Art, Engineering, Drafting, and Architecture.
  • Maintain SKU integrity and pricing in the system, creating barcodes and pricing tags that match database information.
  • Organize merchandise in accessible and aesthetically pleasing arrangements, rotating stock as needed.
  • Analyze sales reports and monitor stock, including perishable goods, regularly.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Campus Services on marketing and promotions, creating a marketing plan and schedule.
  • Promote a high level of customer service for students and customers.
  • Train student workers on cash register operations and monitor them during busy periods.
  • Coordinate with the Web Store Technician to ensure timely posting of merchandise on the store website with complete and accurate item descriptions.
  • Perform cashiering, refunds, special orders, web orders, and buyback, including closing out and balancing cash drawers.
  • Order, distribute, and maintain regalia for students and faculty.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of retail and customer service experience, including sales, ordering, receiving, stocking, and cashiering.
  • Computer aptitude with the ability to use Excel and word-processing software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Post-secondary coursework.
  • POS/inventory system training.
