About the position

The General Office Assistant 5 position involves performing a variety of office support tasks within the Michigan Department of Corrections. The role includes maintaining parole violator files, preparing records for new commits, and handling general administrative duties such as photocopying and responding to inquiries. This position requires working within a secure facility and interacting with unclassified prisoners, emphasizing the need for ethical standards and integrity in state employment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain active Parole Violator files for prisoners housed at the Reception and Guidance Center (RGC).
  • Run Parole Violation Reports.
  • Pull completed Parole Violator files for classification purposes.
  • Prepare files for transfers out of RGC.
  • Assist in creating Institutional, Counselor, and Central Office records for all new commits entering the Michigan Department of Corrections.
  • Perform photocopying and answer telephones.
  • Respond to email inquiries regarding prisoners.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • No specific type or amount of experience is required for General Office Assistant 5.
  • One year of administrative support experience is required for General Office Assistant 6.
  • Two years of administrative support experience, including one year equivalent to the intermediate level, is required for General Office Assistant E7.
  • Three years of administrative support experience, including two years equivalent to the intermediate level or one year equivalent to the experienced level, is required for General Office Assistant 8.

Nice-to-haves
