About the position

SAVA, an Akima company, is seeking a General Paralegal to provide professional, accurate, timely, and reliable paralegal support. This position will report to the Office of General Counsel (OGC) and will be detailed to assist the Litigation and Trial Branch (LITB) or the International Affairs Legal Branch (IALB). The contractor will be responsible for developing work products with minimal direct supervision, guided by written instructions. The role requires the ability to adapt to changing priorities and to work effectively under pressure, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and accurately. The General Paralegal will handle a variety of responsibilities, including receiving, prioritizing, and processing requests for document review or legal technical assistance. The contractor will conduct legal research, locate responsive information, and identify relevant laws and judicial decisions. Typical paralegal functions will include moderately complex legal research, synopsizing transcripts for attorney use, reviewing case-related materials, and identifying areas that may require further investigation. Additionally, the contractor will draft preliminary legal memoranda and correspondence, assist in preparing legal documents such as motions and briefs, and support attorneys throughout all phases of litigation. The contractor will also be responsible for reviewing discovery materials for relevance and privilege, preparing privilege logs, and maintaining documentation of records produced in discovery. Other tasks include drafting preservation notices and litigation holds, as well as generating reports regarding case assignments and productivity using case management databases. This position is critical in ensuring that the legal team operates smoothly and effectively, contributing to the overall success of the organization’s legal efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, prioritize, and process requests such as document review or requests for legal technical assistance.
  • Research and locate responsive information documents and identify relevant laws, judicial decisions, and legal articles.
  • Perform moderately complex legal research and synopsizing transcripts of hearings and oral arguments for attorney use.
  • Review case-related materials and identify potentially conflicting statements or areas requiring further investigation.
  • Write preliminary drafts of legal memoranda and correspondence.
  • Assist in preparing draft legal documents, such as motions, briefs, and memoranda of law.
  • Conduct legal analysis and review documents for relevance and privilege.
  • Assist attorneys with all phases of litigation, including aiding with discovery requests and responses.
  • Review materials in discovery for relevancy and privilege and prepare privilege logs.
  • Maintain documentation of records produced in discovery and correspondence sent.
  • Assist in drafting and issuing preservation notices and litigation holds.
  • Design, generate, and transmit reports regarding case assignments and productivity using case management databases.

Requirements

  • An active Top-Secret clearance with SCI eligibility is required.
  • Minimum of two or more years of litigation paralegal experience with trial experience.
  • Successful completion of Paralegal degree or certificate.
  • Sound working knowledge of federal and state court systems, legal research procedures, and legal research resources.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and thorough knowledge of legal research tools, such as LEXIS NEXIS and Westlaw.
  • Experience performing legal research and writing.
  • Experience preparing legal memoranda and correspondence.
  • Experience assisting attorneys with all phases of litigation, including aiding with discovery requests and responses.
  • Experience reviewing documents for relevance and privilege, drafting motions and briefs, and organizing exhibits and evidence.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and familiarity with various computer applications.
