About the position

Michigan Sugar Company is seeking a dedicated General Sugar Packer to join our team at the Bay City Facility. This full-time position is essential in ensuring that our sugar products are packaged according to customer specifications while adhering to all regulatory and Safe Quality Food (SQF) requirements. As a General Sugar Packer, you will be responsible for operating consumer packaging equipment, performing quality checks, and completing necessary documentation for all operations. You will also be required to take fork-truck training classes and drive when necessary, ensuring that you are well-equipped to handle the demands of the role. In this position, you will be expected to run consumer packaging equipment at a set rate, perform quality checks to verify that all finished products meet customer requirements, and package consumer bags into customer boxes at a rate of 35 bags per minute. Additionally, you will operate sugar bundling equipment, stack finished products on pallets within machine cycle rates, and communicate effectively with team members to resolve any issues that arise. Safety is paramount, and you will be required to perform all tasks in a safe manner, following all SQF and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) guidelines. Responsibilities

  • Run consumer packaging equipment at set rate.
  • Perform quality checks to verify finished products meet customer requirements.
  • Complete necessary documentation for all operations being performed.
  • Package consumer bags into customer boxes at a rate of 35 bpm.
  • Operate and perform all tasks necessary on sugar bundling equipment.
  • Stack finished product on pallets within machine cycle rates.
  • Report all problems to the team leader or other team members for resolution.
  • Perform all assigned tasks in a safe manner.

Requirements

  • Previous work experience in a production environment is preferred.
  • Able to perform basic computer skills on a daily basis.
  • Must learn, follow & promote all SQF & GMP quality system guidelines & safety practices.
  • Previous quality systems experience is preferred.
  • Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in hot conditions.
  • May be required to be licensed and drive fork truck as needed.
  • Must be able to work any shift and weekend overtime as required.
  • High School diploma is preferred.
