About the position

The General Trades Technician is responsible for providing general maintenance and repair services to facilities, ensuring that all systems operate efficiently and safely. This role involves troubleshooting and performing routine repairs in various areas including electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and carpentry. The technician will be a key member of the maintenance team, responding to service requests and performing preventative maintenance to uphold the quality and safety standards of the facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general maintenance and repair work on facilities and equipment.
  • Respond to service requests including electrical, HVAC systems, plumbing, and carpentry tasks.
  • Conduct routine preventative maintenance to ensure machines operate smoothly.
  • Follow an established preventive maintenance program for heating and ventilation systems.
  • Assist in emergency maintenance including sewage backups and water leaks.
  • Assemble, install, and repair wiring, plumbing, and machinery.
  • Check blueprints and repair manuals to determine work requirements.
  • Operate plant equipment and building automation systems.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in ready repair and assist in inventory management.
  • Understand the proper use of equipment and chemicals, including PPE.
  • Maintain a clean and safe workplace according to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Ensure unsafe conditions are corrected in a timely manner.
  • Be available for on-call services as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Skills Trade Certification is a plus.
  • Minimum of two to three years experience in building repairs and maintenance.
  • General knowledge of electrical, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, and building maintenance.
  • EPA certification is a plus.
  • Ability to perform physical work and lift weights up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Valid driver's license and insurance required.
  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and reliability are essential.
  • Computer literacy is required.
