About the position

The General Trades Technician at CGL is responsible for providing general maintenance and repair services to facilities and equipment. This role is essential in ensuring that all building systems operate efficiently and safely, addressing a variety of maintenance tasks including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry work. The technician will be part of a maintenance team, responding to service requests and performing preventative maintenance to uphold the quality and safety standards of the facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Performs general maintenance and repair work on facilities and equipment.
  • Responds to service requests including electrical, HVAC systems, plumbing, and carpentry tasks.
  • Performs routine preventative maintenance to ensure machines operate smoothly.
  • Follows an established preventive maintenance program for heating and ventilation systems.
  • Assists in emergency maintenance including sewage back-ups and water leaks.
  • Assembles, installs, and repairs wiring, plumbing, and machinery.
  • Checks blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs for maintenance tasks.
  • Operates plant equipment and building automation systems.
  • Maintains tools and equipment in ready repair and assists in inventory management.
  • Understands the proper use of equipment and chemicals, including PPE.
  • Maintains a clean and safe workplace according to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Handles hazardous materials in compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Ensures all maintenance conforms to quality standards and timeliness.
  • Completes required compliance, safety, and developmental training as assigned.
  • Available for on-call services as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 1-3 years of experience in building repairs and maintenance preferred.
  • General knowledge of electrical, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, and building maintenance.
  • Ability to perform physical work and lift weights up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Willingness to work occasional on-call shifts.
  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and reliability.
  • Computer proficiency required.
  • Valid driver's license and insurance required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Skills Trade Certification preferred.
  • EPA certification preferred.
