The General Utility position is a critical role within the production process, primarily focused on monitoring and ensuring the quality of products as they move through the production line. This position requires the employee to be actively engaged in spreading, inspecting, and packing products while adhering to strict safety and quality standards. Employees will be stationed by a continually moving conveyor belt, where they will need to use both hands effectively to manage the flow of goods. The role involves removing scrap products from the conveyor and placing them into designated inedible barrels, ensuring that only quality products are processed further. As part of the packing process, employees will handle boxes that can weigh between 9 to 35 pounds, depending on the product. These boxes are pushed down a running conveyor from the scale, closed, and then pushed through a tape machine before being stacked on skids to a height of 4-6 feet. Once packed, the products are transferred to a freezer using pallet jacks. It is essential for employees to report any issues with the product to their lead, manager, or supervisor, and to work collaboratively as part of a team under the supervision of a lead. In addition to the primary responsibilities, employees are expected to maintain cleanliness in the production area, especially when the line is down, by sweeping and cleaning as necessary. Adherence to safety rules and regulations is paramount, and employees must follow established Lockout/Tagout procedures as required. The work environment is fast-paced, and employees must be reliable and self-driven to succeed in this role. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided and must be worn at all times, as temperatures in the plant average around 50 degrees. Compliance with food safety standards, including GMP's, SSOP, SOP, HACCP, SQF, and quality requirements, is also a critical aspect of this position.
