About the position

The General Warehouse Manager is responsible for overseeing the warehouse management team, ensuring safety, productivity, and efficiency in warehouse operations. This role involves leading employees and managers, monitoring operational flow, and coordinating processes to enhance operational efficiencies within the warehouse.

Responsibilities

  • Supervising the efficient operations of the warehouse and communicating daily with employees.
  • Collaborating in the development, implementation, and monitoring of standard operations procedures for warehousing and transportation.
  • Ensuring equipment is in proper working condition and arranging service actions when needed.
  • Observing warehouse employee productivity and quality, developing action plans to support and improve them.
  • Evaluating warehouse activities, projected volumes, customer base, and product mixes to determine personnel and equipment needs.
  • Leading safety policies and practices within the warehouse.
  • Providing instruction, discipline, coaching, mentoring, and motivation to maintain morale and encourage teamwork.
  • Handling employee concerns and ensuring consistent practices are followed.
  • Monitoring the security of the warehouse.
  • Reviewing operational flows through shifts and communicating with supervisors to gauge progress.
  • Monitoring supplies throughout shifts and directing replenishment efforts as needed.
  • Performing periodic inventory counts and ensuring inventory system accuracy and integrity.
  • Implementing procedures to handle customer and vendor requests.
  • Collaborating in the implementation of warehouse and transportation employee training programs.
  • Performing responsibilities for the selection and hiring of warehouse position candidates.
  • Managing warehouse employee activities and evaluating performances.

Requirements

  • 2- or 4-year degree in Business or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 4-6 years of warehouse experience and 3-5 years of supervisory experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of warehouse operations and distribution.
  • Proficient knowledge of warehouse management systems, email systems, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Experience in forecasting and project management.
  • General mechanical and mathematic skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and disperse information across the warehouse.
  • Ability to analyze data and make suggested changes to improve operational performance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Physical ability to handle objects, tools, and/or controls.
  • Physical ability to navigate through the warehouse and occasionally bend, kneel, or reach.
  • Ability to work in a warehouse environment with exposure to noise and temperature extremes.
