About the position

The Generation Process Specialist Mechanic is responsible for ensuring the safe, cost-effective, and environmentally responsible operation and maintenance of equipment at the Hamakua Power Plant. This role focuses on aligning plant performance with operational goals, regulatory standards, and safety protocols. The specialist will monitor and improve plant systems, troubleshoot issues, and collaborate with the team to optimize operations, requiring a journeyman-level mechanical background and a strong understanding of combined cycle power plant operations and maintenance practices.

Responsibilities

  • Foster teamwork to enhance plant operations and efficiency.
  • Ensure smooth daily operations and provide necessary support for the team.
  • Verify accuracy and completeness of daily logs and alarm summaries.
  • Take corrective actions to address equipment issues or operational problems.
  • Report on team activities, equipment issues, and unusual conditions in turnover and status reports.
  • Enforce safe work practices and proper tagging of equipment in accordance with plant procedures.
  • Assist in coordinating daily maintenance efforts to meet plant objectives.
  • Contribute to the development of the plant's weekly maintenance plan.
  • Support the daily ordering of necessary parts and materials.
  • Continuously monitor plant status via control and security displays for up to 16 hours.
  • Help assess work order priorities and coordinate daily maintenance activities.
  • Assist in planning night shift and weekend work packages.
  • Offer expertise in mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation as needed.
  • Ensure completion of work orders from start to finish.
  • Manage the daily ordering of parts and materials for maintenance needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Understanding of combined cycle power plant theories, operation and maintenance practices, work standards and safety procedures
  • Journeyman level mechanical experience and competency
  • Five (5) or more years of experience operating combined power plant or similar industrial process
  • Familiarity with General Electric and ABB controls systems
  • Engineering background through college, apprenticeship, or military training
  • Excellent technical and organizational skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment and perform effectively without close supervision
  • Computer literate and familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel, and e-mail
