About the position

The Entry Level Engineer position at Xcel Energy is designed to develop technical expertise in a specific area of engineering. This role involves performing conventional engineering tasks with limited complexity, leading small to medium projects, and providing field oversight under the guidance of higher-level engineers. The position emphasizes the application of technical standards and principles while supporting project activities across various engineering functions.

Responsibilities

• Use and apply technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques to perform activities/assignments of limited scope.
• Support the development of technical documentation including designs, testing, calculations, and reports.
• Provide ongoing technical support for project activities in areas such as Operations, Maintenance, and Testing/diagnostics.
• Coordinate and lead projects or portions of projects under the direction of a higher-level engineer or supervisor.
• Support bid/evaluation processes by performing basic analysis and calculations on existing documentation and materials.
• Effectively exchange information on matters of importance and complexity with internal and external stakeholders.
• Coordinate the work of interns, drafters, technicians, and provide guidance to less experienced engineers.
• Perform budgeting, estimating, forecasting, and work order management in support of engineering projects.

Requirements

• Required bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum (mechanical engineering preferred).
• 0+ years relevant engineering experience.
• Ability to demonstrate unique technical skills and core competencies for this engineering level established by the organization.
• EIT/FE (Engineer in Training/Fundamentals of Engineering) preferred.

Nice-to-haves

• EIT/FE (Engineer in Training/Fundamentals of Engineering) strongly preferred for higher levels.
• Power plant experience preferred for higher levels.
