About the position

The Generator Services Engineer position involves providing technical support services to material generators and representing Generator Services in Production facilities while working with projects such as UPF. The role includes assisting generators with developing and executing effective characterization strategies, determining packaging requirements for compliant transportation and disposal, and preparing waste profiles and supporting characterization documents. The engineer will manage various regulated areas, materials, and containers in a safe, secure, efficient, effective, and compliant manner. The candidate will be working in both an office and field environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical support services to material generators
  • Represents Generator Services in Production facilities and working with Projects such as UPF
  • Assists generators with developing and executing effective characterization strategies
  • Determines packaging requirements for compliant transportation and disposal
  • May prepare waste profiles and supporting characterization documents (i.e. Technical Basis Documents, Due Diligence documents)
  • Manages a multitude of Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), and low-level waste (LLW) regulated areas, materials, and containers in a safe, secure, efficient, effective, and compliant process

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience
  • Ten (10) or more years of education and/or relevant experience may be considered to satisfy educational and years-of-experience requirements
  • Must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2 (i.e., 1 year job-related experience, or a DOE O 426.2 alternative)
  • Newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities until DOE 426.2 experience requirements are satisfied

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering/science/information technology discipline
  • Master's degree in engineering/science/information technology discipline
  • Previous experience with chemical and radiological waste characterization, treatment, packaging, transportation, and disposal of waste generated at Department of Energy nuclear facilities
  • Previous experience with interpretation of analytical data for the purpose of determining regulatory status
  • Formal training related to radioactive waste management, DOT, RCRA, Polychlorinated Biphenyls, and Radiological Worker II
