About the position

MasTec Communications Group is seeking a skilled and motivated Generator Technician to service and repair commercial generators on cell phone towers. This role is fast-paced and ideal for self-directed individuals who are willing to travel and eager to learn and grow in the Telecom industry.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining generators, diagnosing, and repairing problems, or installing and replacing components or entire systems
  • Performing additional maintenance or upgrades on out of season equipment
  • Conducting performance checks and regular maintenance to ensure proper readiness
  • Reading and following blueprints or other design specifications to install or repair
  • Installing electrical wiring and controls and testing for proper operation
  • Installing fuel and water supply lines, pumps, and other components
  • Connecting electrical wiring
  • Using care to conserve, recover, and recycle the oil or fuel filters and other fluids
  • Assisting in troubleshooting and repair with other Generator Service Technicians
  • Responding promptly to Power/Generator alarms; can be on call 24/7 if necessary
  • Operating a computer or similar devices to access required systems and equipment
  • Working independently with minimum or no supervision
  • Performing work with awareness of potential hazards connected with installation and maintenance of power supply equipment
  • Complying with all specifications, industry standards, safety rules and regulations, and company policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Two or more years of experience with generator maintenance is preferred
  • Minimum of one year of intense work-related experience with generator and electrical maintenance-related software, hardware, and processes
  • Thorough knowledge of generator installations, maintenance, and repair
  • Knowledge of electronic, mechanical, and electrical components
  • Familiarity with solar panels
  • Moderate computer skills
  • Basic knowledge of pertinent FCC/FAA/EPA/OSHA regulations
  • Ability to lift over 50 pounds, stoop, bend, kneel, squat, climb, and stand for long periods of time
  • Unimpaired hearing and ability to communicate orally and via telephone
  • Willingness to drive long distances and work various hours including overtime, emergency call-outs, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to assume 24-hour on-call duty when assigned and be away from home for extended periods.
