About the position

ABM Industries is seeking Generator Technicians to join their Electrical Power Services team. The role involves maintaining and repairing various mechanical systems and equipment, ensuring the smooth operation of machinery and electrical equipment essential for the organization. The position offers hands-on training in electrical testing, particularly geared towards NETA standards, making it ideal for those with generator repair experience or an electrical theory background.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks to ensure the optimal functioning of machinery and equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical issues, troubleshoot problems, and implement effective solutions to minimize downtime.
  • Conduct inspections and assessments to identify potential issues and prevent equipment failures.
  • Repair and replace defective parts using hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to coordinate maintenance schedules and prioritize repair tasks.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and regulations to maintain a safe working environment for yourself and others.
  • Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and parts inventory.
  • Stay updated on advancements in mechanical technology and techniques through continuous learning and training.
  • Learn how to perform switchgear testing, IR scans & apparatus testing.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a mechanic or similar role, preferably in an industrial or commercial setting.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing mechanical issues.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, tools, and equipment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Certification or formal training in mechanical engineering or a related field is desirable.

Nice-to-haves

  • Electrical theory background is preferred but not required.
