About the position

The Eligibility Specialist role is designed to strengthen Michigan families by ensuring they receive the appropriate public assistance they are eligible for. This position involves assessing the needs of individuals and families, providing them with necessary information, making referrals to relevant agencies, and guiding them towards self-sufficiency. The specialist will also communicate the expectations and goals of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) to families.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that each person/family applying for public assistance receives the appropriate type and level of assistance.
  • Assess the needs of each person/family and provide appropriate information and referrals to agencies.
  • Provide families with information about the expectations and goals of MDHHS.
  • Encourage and guide families in their efforts to become self-supporting.
