About the position
The Genetic Counselor at St. Joseph's Healthcare System provides clinical consultation to patients regarding the risks of birth defects, mental retardation, and inherited disorders. This role involves identifying risks, offering appropriate testing, communicating test results, and writing summary reports. Responsibilities
- Provide clinical consultation to patients regarding occurrence of and risk for birth defects, mental retardation, and inherited disorders.
- Identify risks and offer appropriate testing to patients.
- Receive and communicate test results to patients.
- Write summary reports based on consultations and test results.
- Provide genetic education to medical and genetic counseling personnel.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Genetic Counseling, Human Genetics, or a closely related field.
- 2-3 years of work-related experience in genetic counseling.
- Genetic Counselor License required.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to exercise sound judgment.
- Attention to detail and problem resolution skills.
- Strong customer service, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
