About The Position

The Automation Engineer will join the RNA Therapeutics team at Eli Lilly in Boston, MA, focusing on the automation of laboratory processes related to RNA-based therapeutics. This role involves collaborating with scientists to develop and maintain automated workflows, ensuring efficient and robust laboratory operations. The engineer will also provide training and support to scientists, manage equipment, and coordinate cross-functional projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in life sciences or similar scientific field and 7+ years of related experience with high-throughput laboratory instrumentation, or Master's degree in scientific field and 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with high-throughput analytics and automated tools.
  • Ability to lead script development projects in collaboration with lab scientists.
  • Familiarity with general laboratory procedures and basic cell and molecular techniques.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as Python and C#.
  • Experience with Atlassian tools for version control and issue management.

Nice To Haves

  • Broad experience with smaller standalone automated systems like Echo, KingFisher, and Hamilton Prep.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and experience with laboratory information management systems.
  • Demonstrated time management skills and ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the automation strategy at Lilly's Boston site, collaborating with scientists and external vendors.
  • Translate benchtop processes to fully automated workflows through programming and validating runs.
  • Design, develop, and maintain automated workflows for synthetic oligonucleotide libraries, high-throughput screening, and molecular biology processes.
  • Operate and program automated liquid handling robotics platforms and integrated systems.
  • Provide training and documentation to scientists on automation instruments and assist with troubleshooting.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional team members to execute projects in a timely manner.
  • Manage equipment scheduling, service contracts, and preventative maintenance.
