About the position

The Genome Editing Data Scientist at Bayer is responsible for developing advanced AI-assisted genetic discovery tools aimed at uncovering novel genetics with optimal phenotypic performance. This role involves leveraging extensive functional genomic datasets to build mathematical models and apply machine learning techniques. The position requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to analyze complex genetic interactions and improve gene editing targets in crops like corn and soy.

Responsibilities

  • Develop AI-assisted genetic discovery tools for novel genetics.
  • Train and analyze AI techniques on extensive agricultural datasets.
  • Identify complex genetic interactions using advanced statistical methods.
  • Investigate gene regulatory networks for trait experiments and gene editing targets.
  • Gather, curate, and quality control new data sources across R&D teams.
  • Serve as a consultant to management and others in the discipline.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional scientific, engineering, and IT teams.

Requirements

  • MS with a minimum of 4 years relevant experience.
  • Educational preparation or applied experience in Machine/Deep Learning, Bayesian Statistics, Plant Genomics, or related fields.
  • Team player with a track record of collaboration.
  • Open-minded personality with the ability to work independently.
  • Fluent communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
  • Experience with modeling relationships between genotypes and phenotypes using advanced statistical methods.
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, R, SQL, or similar.
  • Experience with Nextflow, AWS cloud services, or related cloud services.

Nice-to-haves

  • PhD in computer science, statistics, computational biology, or related field.
