About the position

The Geographic Information Spatial Analyst I position at Fairfax County is designed to deliver impactful geospatial solutions that support county government operations and serve the public. This role involves fulfilling GIS project requests, implementing web-based GIS solutions, performing spatial analysis, and providing technical support and training for GIS products and services.

Responsibilities

• Fulfill GIS project requests by designing maps, developing reports, and creating spatial layers.
• Implement web-based GIS solutions using platforms such as ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Enterprise.
• Perform basic spatial analysis and collaborate with senior GIS Analysts on various projects.
• Assist other GIS teams by testing and evaluating software applications.
• Provide GIS technical support and training for county staff.
• Respond to public inquiries regarding GIS products and services.
• Support the county Emergency Operations Center (EOC) when activated.
• Maintain inventory of GIS consumables and support additional office functions.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, geography or related field; plus course work in ArcView GIS or similar GIS software.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Ability to operate keyboard driven equipment.

• Experience with web-based mapping applications such as ArcGIS Online.
• Excellent cartographic skills.

• Experience delivering GIS technical support.
• Skilled at working with the public in a customer service environment.
• Comfortable teaching GIS concepts and tools.
• Experience with municipal GIS and familiarity with local government lines of business related to land development.
