About the position

The Geographic Information System (GIS) Specialist position at the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Rocky Mountain Region, involves utilizing comprehensive knowledge of GIS and related technologies to develop insights into complex situations, apply innovative solutions to GIS problems, and design new geospatial methods. The role is based in Billings, Montana, and requires occasional travel. The position is permanent and offers a full-time work schedule with promotion potential up to GS-11.

Responsibilities

  • Define data need parameters for specific geospatial projects and/or assignments.
  • Design, develop, and manage geospatial databases, including conversion of digital data and thematic source maps from analog to digital form.
  • Represent the local office manager when working with other internal and external organizations on geospatial matters.
  • Assist in the integration of Enterprise GIS with long- and short-term planning and management activities.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • At least 1 year of full-time specialized experience or equivalent education for GS-09 level, including knowledge of geospatial analysis techniques and GIS software.
  • At least 1 year of full-time specialized experience or equivalent education for GS-11 level, including experience in multi-disciplinary teams and project management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's or equivalent graduate degree in a related field.
  • Experience with ArcGIS Server in an enterprise GIS environment.
