About the position

The Geographic Information Systems Specialist I position at Westchester County's Department of Information Technology (DoIT) involves assisting in the creation and management of enterprise geospatial datasets, as well as supporting cartographic and mapping tasks. This entry-level role provides an opportunity to gain experience in GIS database development, programming, and map-making functions, while also contributing to various projects that support county departments and local governments.

Responsibilities

• Assist in creating and managing enterprise geospatial datasets.
• Maintain and update the central GIS database using GIS software.
• Collect and review source data from government agencies.
• Assemble and prepare data for distribution to county departments and the public.
• Perform GIS database development and entry-level programming functions.
• Maintain enterprise database layers including street centerline files.
• Provide GIS support to county departments by producing maps and materials.
• Convert geographic data from hardcopy and electronic maps.
• Perform traditional cartographic functions and prepare reports.

Requirements

• Possession of an Associate's Degree and four years of GIS experience, or a Bachelor's Degree and two years of GIS experience, or a Bachelor's Degree in a related field and one year of GIS experience.
• A Master's Degree in a related field may substitute for up to one year of required experience.

Nice-to-haves
