About the position

The Geology Instructor position at El Paso Community College is a full-time, temporary role responsible for providing instruction in geology in alignment with the college's educational philosophy and objectives. The instructor will engage with students in a classroom setting, develop curriculum, and support student learning through various teaching methods. This role requires in-person attendance on campus and involves participation in departmental activities and governance.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to approved course syllabi and provide students with course requirements by the end of the first week of classes.
  • Use appropriate teaching methods to reach students of varying educational backgrounds and learning styles.
  • Allow students to assess their own progress and provide opportunities for mastery of course objectives.
  • Develop and revise curriculum and instructional materials as needed.
  • Submit syllabi or addenda to the Division Office by the end of the first week of class.
  • Assist in the selection of textbooks and other instructional materials.
  • Post and maintain office hours as per institutional guidelines.
  • Serve as an academic advisor and provide leadership in student activities.
  • Make provisions for student evaluations of instruction and arrange for submission of evaluations.
  • Participate in divisional and departmental responsibilities, including proposing programs and projects.
  • Attend all scheduled discipline and division activities during the academic year unless conflicts arise.
  • Assist in the evaluation and selection of faculty and other program staff.
  • Contribute to the governance of the College through active service on committees.
  • Participate in faculty orientation sessions and professional development activities.
  • Accept responsibility for professional awareness and growth.
  • Support the community college's mission to serve the community.
  • Assist in planning and implementing ongoing activities crucial to the discipline or program.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Geology or a Master's degree with eighteen (18) graduate semester hours in Geology.
  • Experience teaching in the discipline.
  • Experience or ability to teach at the community college level.
  • Experience or ability to incorporate technology into the classroom.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $46,412 - $57,776 per year.
  • Reimbursement for one-half of transportation costs for out-of-town candidates invited for an on-campus interview.
  • Lodging arrangements for up to two nights for out-of-town candidates.
