About the position

The Geology Supervisor position at the Wyoming State Engineer's Office involves overseeing groundwater resources regulation and administration. Responsibilities

  • Investigate and quantify the availability of groundwater resources.
  • Evaluate the adequacy of aquifer-test data and calculate aquifer parameters.
  • Review and perform hydrogeologic modeling.
  • Lead investigations and analysis of hydrogeologic data with other geologists/staff.
  • Provide professional technical support in resolving groundwater disputes.
  • Offer expert-witness testimony at hearings before relevant boards and entities.
  • Evaluate hypothetical impacts and respond to groundwater development concerns.
  • Collect, analyze, interpret, and report on site-specific hydrogeologic conditions.
  • Process groundwater applications and related water rights documents.
  • Conduct field inspections for adjudications and prepare proofs.
  • Present hydrogeologic investigation results to stakeholders and legal counsel.
  • Coordinate groundwater investigations with various state and federal agencies.
  • Evaluate geologic data to determine production intervals of groundwater production and monitoring wells.
  • Manage the review and interpretation of technical groundwater data from monitoring well networks.
  • Independently evaluate hydrogeologic reports submitted to the agency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Geology or Geotechnical Engineering.
  • 1-3 years of progressive work experience in Geology at the level of a Project Geologist.
  • A Professional Geologist License (PG) or Professional Engineering License (PE) is required at the time of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with analytical/numerical groundwater modeling techniques, including familiarity with MODFLOW.
  • Strong communication skills for effective presentation to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with staff and resolve conflicts.
