About the position

The Geoscience Trainee position at the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Department of Environmental Protection offers a one-year training program designed to equip individuals with the necessary skills for a Geoscientist role. This position focuses on addressing hydrogeologic challenges, particularly groundwater contamination, and involves a combination of formal education and practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate hydrogeologic and geological aspects of work plans and reports.
• Analyze proposals and designs related to groundwater, soil, surface water, air, and sediment sampling.
• Conduct feasibility and treatability studies.
• Review groundwater pump test proposals and assess Land Recycling report submissions.
• Perform field inspections and collect various data types, including field, laboratory, and historical information.
• Provide guidance and information to industry representatives, technical consultants, elected officials, and the public regarding Act 2 regulations.

Requirements

• Possession of an active Geologist-in-Training certificate or a bachelor's degree in geology, geophysics, geochemistry, engineering geology, or a closely related field with 30 college credits in geologic coursework.
• An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes 30 college credits in geologic coursework.
• Possession and maintenance of an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C driver's license.
