About the position
The Geotechnical Engineer 6 at CDM Smith is responsible for creating engineering designs for various projects including excavation, dewatering, foundations, and geo-environmental projects. This role involves reviewing designs for compliance with regulations, performing site studies, and providing technical guidance to junior staff. The engineer will also collaborate with sales staff on proposals and contribute to the firm's technical knowledge management by developing documentation and publishing technical papers.
Responsibilities
- Create engineering designs for excavation, dewatering, foundations, and geo-environmental projects.
- Review draft designs for compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Perform site reviews and studies to ensure designs align with location specifications.
- Conduct soil sampling analyses and modeling.
- Develop white papers and technical design documentation for new or special case designs.
- Collaborate with sales staff to create proposals in response to client requests for proposals (RFPs).
- Review draft proposals for adherence to regulations and best practices.
- Meet with clients to discuss their design needs.
- Attend conferences and symposia to promote the firm's products and services.
- Provide technical guidance and training to junior staff.
- Mentor junior staff and supervise their work on projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical, Civil, Mining or Geologic Engineering or related discipline.
- Professional engineering (PE) license.
- 10 years of related experience.
- Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Nice-to-haves
- Expert knowledge of computer-assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices.
- Expert knowledge of engineering principles of design.
