About the position

We are seeking a Staff Level Geotechnical Engineer for our Mining Design & Technical Services group based in Denver, Colorado. This entry-level position will support ongoing mining services for tailings and heap leach projects both within the USA and in international locations. The selected candidate will become part of a small geotechnical technical services group and will be involved in project-related work. The role is designed to be dynamic, allowing the engineer to work across multiple design teams, including civil and hydrogeological teams, and engage in a variety of tasks. The successful candidate will participate in geotechnical site assessments and associated field services, which will include the development of soil and foundation recommendations for surface infrastructure, conducting dam breach evaluations, and performing stability and deformation analyses. This position emphasizes professional development, with the goal of transitioning additional responsibilities to the candidate over time. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential for effective interaction with staff personnel, clients, and vendors. The candidate is expected to work as a member of diverse project teams and accomplish specific tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support ongoing EOR services for tailings and heap leach projects within the USA and international locations.
  • Report directly to an existing EOR and integrate into future design work and systematic monitoring activities.
  • Complete geotechnical site assessments and associated field services for mining infrastructure development.
  • Support initial and ongoing material characterization activities, including gathering field data and designing laboratory programs.
  • Perform stability and deformation analyses for mining infrastructure, including tailings storage facilities and heap leach pads.
  • Develop soil and foundation recommendations for surface infrastructure.
  • Assist with tailings dam breach evaluations.
  • Work with and provide training to junior engineers.
  • Assist with generating design drawings using Autodesk Civil 3D.

Requirements

  • Education: Master of Science (preferred); Bachelor of Science (considered). Civil Engineering degrees from ABET-accredited universities are preferred.
  • Professional Experience: 0+ for Entry-Level.
  • Computer Software: Significant experience with MS Office Suite; some experience with standard geotechnical design software (Rocscience, GeoStudios, etc.); numerical modeling experience is advantageous; basic understanding of Autodesk Civil 3D.
  • Geotechnical Laboratory: Proficient with standard material testing and index tests.
  • Required Registrations / Professional Development: Successful completion of FE Exam.
  • Travel: Must have the ability to travel in the U.S. and internationally to support field programs.
  • Technical writing: Proficiency in technical writing is expected.

Nice-to-haves

  • Working knowledge of geotechnical monitoring instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with various geotechnical tools for subsurface assessments (drilling methods; CPT; geophysics, etc.).
  • Experience with numerical modeling methods and software.
