About the position

As a Geotechnical Department Manager at Actalent's Tucson, AZ location, you will oversee all Geotechnical projects, ensuring they are executed on time and meet client requirements while adhering to company policies. This role involves managing proposals, cost estimates, and daily operations of the department, including staff training and performance reviews. You will also engage in business development to identify and secure project opportunities, fostering client relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare proposals and cost estimates.
  • Perform business and client development activities with support from the Office Manager.
  • Develop and manage employee staffing plans, recruitment, selection, and onboarding with support from the Office Manager.
  • Prepare and execute the annual business plan for the department with support from the Office Manager.
  • Oversee and manage key department metrics, including revenue growth, staff chargeability, project billing and collections, and project profitability.
  • Develop an understanding of project-related risks and be familiar with company risk policies.
  • Lead safety efforts for the team, ensuring adherence to safety rules and guidelines.
  • Promote continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects.
  • Engage APRs on projects at their onset.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or Geology with 5 years of practice experience, or a minimum of 9 years of related experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable violation history.
  • Strong communication skills to help grow the department.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree or PhD preferred.
  • Certification or licensure in the field of expertise.
  • Willingness to relocate and/or bonus for out-of-state candidates.
