About the position

The Geriatric Social Worker will play a crucial role in the Elder Abuse Prevention Program (EAPP) at the Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty, focusing on providing support and services to seniors who are victims of elder abuse and financial exploitation. This position involves direct client interaction, advocacy, and collaboration with various agencies to enhance the safety and stability of vulnerable seniors in Southern Brooklyn communities.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct services to elder abuse victims and survivors to maximize safety and stability.
• Perform intakes and assessments and enter case notes into the database.
• Conduct advocacy with government, legal/law enforcement, and other social service agencies on behalf of clients.
• Make referrals for services including legal services, home safety modifications, mental health treatment, etc.
• Deliver trauma-informed supportive counseling on a short-term basis.
• Work in the field including home visits (when needed), accompanying clients to court, and meeting with clients in our South Brooklyn field office.
• Keep track of ongoing data to ensure deliverables are met.
• Assist with reports to funder.
• Attend meetings with funder.
• Additional responsibilities as required.

Requirements

• Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW)
• Previous experience working with older adults (preferred)
• Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Outlook.

Nice-to-haves

• Ability to speak publicly, make presentations, and provide services in a second language (preferred).
• Knowledge of NYC's diverse immigrant communities a plus.
