About the position

The Software Engineer will be responsible for the development and support of the GMD Fire Control suite of products within the Missile Defense Agency's Ground-based Midcourse Defense Weapon System program. This role involves designing, developing, and testing software applications while collaborating with hardware engineers and ensuring adherence to software standards.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, document, test and debug applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions.
  • Conduct multidisciplinary research and collaborate with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design and development of product software.
  • Ensure software standards are met.
  • Support advanced portions of the lifecycle of software development to include requirements definition, integration, and deployment.
  • Prioritize and adjust tasks to accomplish project results with minimal oversight and direction.
  • Apply a holistic systems approach to ensure developed products are scalable, maintainable, and meet end-user needs.
  • Develop technical solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity.
  • Communicate openly and effectively with teammates and customer representatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience, or a Master's degree and 3 years of related experience.
  • Maximum years' experience not to exceed 10.
  • Recent demonstration of developing software in object-oriented programming languages such as Ada, C, C++, or Java.
  • Strong Math background, specifically linear algebra, probability, and numerical methods.
  • Strong Physics background, specifically Orbital mechanics, gravity and earth modelling.
  • Active US Government DoD Secret security clearance.
  • Must be able to support an in-person, closed-area work environment 100% of the time.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Missile Defense Agency systems.
  • Understanding of continuous integration/delivery.
  • Experience with algorithm/SW optimization and debugging skills.
  • Experience with Linux and Windows operating systems.
  • Understanding of Agile software development practices and DevSecOps.
  • Experience with version control software and tools such as Git, Gitlab, Nexus Repository, Artifactory, Bitbucket, Jira, Confluence, Jenkins, etc.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with technical teams and government customer personnel.
