About the position

The GI Registered Nurse (RN) at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission plays a crucial role in coordinating the efforts of a multidisciplinary care team to provide comprehensive care for patients. In this role, the RN demonstrates leadership and management skills, showing a commitment to professional accountability and growth. The RN is expected to advance from novice to expert, becoming an evidence-based scholar to provide the best possible care. The position requires adherence to the Kansas Nurse Practice Act and compliance with all regulatory standards, policies, protocols, and procedures. The RN serves as a role model for the mission, vision, and values of Shawnee Mission Health, ensuring that patient safety is prioritized through established policies and procedures. The RN will actively participate in various team activities, including bedside shift reports, safety huddles, multidisciplinary patient rounds, and hourly rounding. This collaborative approach is essential for gathering necessary information to anticipate patient needs and facilitate smooth transitions of care. Additionally, the RN is responsible for patient education and discharge planning, which are vital for promoting optimal patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the efforts of the multidisciplinary care team for patients.
  • Provide direct patient care and collaborate with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Utilize the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation) to maintain and improve patient outcomes.
  • Demonstrate leadership and management skills in nursing practice.
  • Participate in bedside shift reports, safety huddles, and multidisciplinary patient rounds.
  • Implement a plan of care according to identified patient needs.
  • Provide patient teaching and discharge planning to promote optimal outcomes.

Requirements

  • Kansas Registered Nurse License
  • BCLS obtained through the American Heart Association
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or obtained within 4 years of employment
