About the position

The Gift & Estate Valuation Senior Associate at Withum is responsible for performing equity valuations and complex security valuations primarily for gift and estate tax purposes. This role involves significant analytical work, including preparing valuation analyses, assisting in financial reporting, and conducting economic and statistical analysis. The position requires a strong understanding of valuation methods and the ability to work independently on various projects while contributing to the overall success of the Forensic and Valuation Services practice.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing valuation analyses primarily for gift & estate tax purposes.
  • Completing data entry of tax returns and financial statements into Excel models.
  • Assisting in writing and preparing reports, letters, and other client deliverables.
  • Assisting in the review of third-party appraisals for audit support purposes.
  • Performing macroeconomic and industry research.
  • Reviewing various agreements, documents, research papers, and market research to capture salient points for modeling purposes.
  • Assisting in the development and maintenance of models using Excel and VBA for complex methods such as Monte Carlo and lattices.
  • Reviewing and understanding the necessary tax and financial reporting guidance governing the analysis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, Accounting, or similar quantitative discipline.
  • Understanding of equity valuation methods such as discounted cash flow, market multiple, market transaction, and option pricing.
  • 3 years relevant experience in performing gift & estate valuations.
  • Understanding of financial statements and business tax returns required.
  • Progress towards external designations such as CFA, CVA, CPA/ABV, or ASA is a plus.
  • Strong interest in quantitative and economic analysis.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel preferred.
  • Ability to program in VBA and/or other statistical packages is a plus.
  • Capacity to work independently on projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as strong verbal and written communication skills.
