About the position

The Gifts Officer at People Incorporated Mental Health Services is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with current and prospective donors to secure financial contributions. This role involves stewardship of various types of gifts, including general donations, legacy gifts, and annual fund gifts, to support the organization's mission and advancement goals.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and cultivate relationships with individuals, families, sponsors, and other resources to increase and maintain giving.
  • Conduct discovery calls, research, and outreach to identify new donors capable of contributing to the organization's philanthropic needs.
  • Manage a portfolio of prospects and donors to generate increases in existing donor giving levels and secure new major gifts.
  • Prepare donor marketing materials, letters, presentations, and proposals as needed.
  • Serve as an ambassador of the organization, interfacing with program staff, volunteers, board members, and community executives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Business Administration, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field.
  • One to five years of prior fundraising experience within a not-for-profit organization.
  • Proven track record of cultivating, soliciting, and closing gifts from a wide range of donors.
  • Working knowledge of tax laws that impact charitable giving, personal assets, and estates.

Nice-to-haves

  • Five or more years of successful fundraising experience for a not-for-profit.
  • Prior donor database experience.
  • Demonstrated advancement experience within an organization that provides services to those with mental health needs.
