About the position
The Gilt Developer Unit Lead is responsible for the overall management of the Gilt Developer Unit (GDU), focusing on maximizing feed intake, managing feeder adjustments, and ensuring optimal health and environment for the pigs. This role involves overseeing various aspects of pig management, including health management, inventory tracking, and environmental assessments, while also ensuring compliance with protocols and standards.
Responsibilities
- Overall management of GDU including maximizing feed intake and feeder management.
- Daily adjustments to feed ration management and water flow availability.
- Minimizing stress events through effective ventilation management and environment assessment.
- Executing medication and vaccination schedules, identifying treatment needs, and communicating thresholds.
- Managing nursery operations including incoming preparation and intensive monitoring.
- Tracking weekly targets for mortality, removals, and inventory management.
- Implementing gilt entry protocols and maintaining accurate records of movements and health events.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- Preferred experience of at least 1 year in pig management or related field.
- Completion of Pipestone Emerging Leader training is preferred.
