GIS ANALYST 1 - Underfill

About the position

The GIS Analyst 1 position is responsible for designing, implementing, supporting, and administering the enterprise geographic information system (GIS) for the Department of Transportation. The role involves mapping, modifying, and maintaining geospatial data layers and databases, as well as developing GIS applications to meet business needs. The incumbent will serve as a subject matter expert on GIS best practices and provide ongoing support for GIS programs, requiring strong communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement the enterprise GIS for the department/division.
• Administer and support all aspects of the GIS.
• Plan, design, modify, and maintain geospatial data layers and databases.
• Develop and deliver GIS applications and services to meet business needs.
• Serve as a subject matter expert on current GIS best practices.
• Troubleshoot problems associated with existing GIS applications, tools, and data.
• Communicate with divisions to understand needs and translate them into actionable discussions.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in geographic information systems, geography, cartography, computer information systems, or a closely related field and one year of professional GIS experience; OR an Associate's degree and two years of GIS experience including one year of professional GIS experience; OR high school graduation and three years of GIS experience including one year of professional GIS experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience with GIS/GPS data collection, analysis, and validation.
• Experience with GIS software application development and cartographic design.
