About the position

The GIS Analyst 1 position is responsible for supporting and administering the enterprise geographic information system (GIS) within the Nevada Department of Transportation. The role involves mapping, designing, implementing, and maintaining geospatial data layers and databases, as well as developing GIS applications to meet business needs. The incumbent will serve as a subject matter expert on GIS best practices and will provide ongoing support for GIS programs, ensuring effective communication with various divisions to understand and translate their needs into actionable solutions.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, support, and administer the enterprise GIS for the department/division.
• Plan, design, modify, and maintain geospatial data layers and databases.
• Develop and deliver GIS applications and services to meet business and information needs.
• Serve as a subject matter expert on current GIS best practices.
• Troubleshoot problems associated with existing GIS applications, tools, and data.
• Communicate effectively with divisions to understand their needs and translate them into discussions.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in geographic information systems, geography, cartography, computer information systems, or a closely related field and one year of professional GIS experience; OR an Associate's degree and two years of GIS experience including one year of professional GIS experience; OR high school graduation and three years of GIS experience including one year of professional GIS experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience with enterprise geodatabases, map services, and ArcGIS Online is preferred.
• Strong communication skills including active listening, feedback, and problem solving.
