About the position

The GIS Analyst 1 position is responsible for designing, implementing, supporting, and administering the enterprise geographic information system (GIS) for the Department of Transportation in Nevada. This role involves mapping, maintaining geospatial data layers, and developing GIS applications to meet business needs. The incumbent will serve as a subject matter expert on GIS best practices and will provide ongoing support for GIS programs, ensuring effective communication with various divisions to understand and translate their needs into actionable solutions.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement the enterprise GIS for the department.
• Administer and support all aspects of the GIS system.
• Plan, design, modify, and maintain geospatial data layers and databases.
• Develop and deliver GIS applications and services to meet business needs.
• Serve as a subject matter expert on current GIS best practices.
• Troubleshoot problems associated with existing GIS applications, tools, and data.
• Communicate effectively with divisions to understand their needs and translate them into GIS solutions.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in geographic information systems, geography, cartography, computer information systems, or a closely related field and one year of professional GIS experience.
• Associate's degree in a related field and two years of GIS experience, including one year of professional GIS experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent and three years of GIS experience, including one year of professional GIS experience.
• Certification as a Geographic Information Systems Professional (GISP) is equivalent to one year of work experience.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with enterprise geodatabases, map services, and ArcGIS Online.
• Strong communication skills including active listening, feedback, and problem solving.
