About the position

The GIS Analyst position at the City of Bryan involves creating and maintaining spatial data to support the Water Services Department's Geographic Information System (GIS). The role includes fulfilling map and data requests, performing spatial data analysis, and providing technical support to GIS users across various city departments. The analyst will utilize ArcGIS software to assist city staff and ensure the accuracy and accessibility of geospatial data.

Responsibilities

  • Creates and maintains spatial data for the City of Bryan's GIS.
  • Fulfills map and data requests and performs analysis of spatial data.
  • Produces maps to express results of analytical processes.
  • Provides technical support to GIS users throughout all City departments.
  • Maintains existing GIS with the latest updates and assists in data procurement and distribution.
  • Utilizes ArcGIS to create maps and perform analysis as needed.
  • Reads and interprets engineering drawings to add new infrastructure into the GIS.
  • Meets with users to define data needs and project requirements.
  • Provides training to other GIS users throughout the City.
  • Coordinates the collection and entry of GPS data from other departments into the GIS.
  • Assists in maintaining the City of Bryan's web applications and enterprise geodatabase.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in GIS, Spatial Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Engineering, Computer Science, or a similar field plus at least two years of experience in GIS and GPS technology; OR an Associate's degree with relevant coursework plus at least four years of experience.
  • Knowledge of ArcGIS for Desktop and ArcGIS for Server.
  • Ability to create, edit, and maintain GIS layers.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent planning, organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with ESRI ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and Microsoft Office Suite.
