About the position

The GIS Analyst position within the Atlanta Department of Transportation (ATLDOT) focuses on leveraging geospatial analytics to enhance transportation planning and policy implementation. This role involves managing GIS projects, collaborating with various departments, and utilizing data to improve safety and mobility for city residents and visitors. The analyst will work under general supervision, contributing to strategic initiatives and providing insights through data analysis and visualization.

Responsibilities

  • Support the execution of GIS and advanced analytics projects focused on improving transportation infrastructure and policies.
  • Work closely with transportation planners, engineers, and project managers to provide geospatial insights related to department initiatives.
  • Create maps, reports, spreadsheets, and other GIS deliverables in printed and/or digital formats.
  • Analyze spatial data such as historical crashes, demographics, and vehicle volumes to discover patterns in road safety.
  • Participate in the cleaning and quality control of datasets and implement schemas for geodatabases and GIS data types.
  • Create dashboards, web apps, web maps, and surveys based on user specifications.
  • Identify potential locations for roadway safety improvements and prioritize projects based on various factors.
  • Inform the life-cycle management of transportation assets using GIS software.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in GIS software tools such as ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
  • Experience with data management and schema design within ESRI platforms.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and good problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse teams and initiate projects.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of urban planning or transportation planning concepts.
  • Experience with dashboard and survey builders like PowerBI and ArcGIS Dashboards.
  • Interest in transportation safety and sustainable transportation.
