The coordinator will also be responsible for maintaining system security by designing user policies and data maintenance procedures, as well as providing technical support to users by answering inquiries and resolving issues. The position requires regular and reliable attendance, with schedules that may change with or without advance notice. The work environment is primarily office-based, and the coordinator will need to collaborate with various departments to ensure that GIS applications meet their specific needs and requirements. This role is critical in ensuring that the GIS systems are efficient, secure, and effectively support the city's operations.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, analyze, and design methods and procedures for the development of a centralized GIS database application.
  • Administer GIS servers, related systems, and databases, coordinating problem resolution with users and vendors.
  • Design and implement new applications and features for GIS systems.
  • Research problems, design solutions, and test and implement software and databases.
  • Verify accuracy, troubleshoot, and maintain all systems and software related to GIS applications.
  • Coordinate GIS system security by designing and documenting user policies and data maintenance procedures.
  • Maintain databases by coordinating department uses and developing new databases.
  • Provide GIS technical support by answering questions, responding to user problems, and implementing solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and training equivalent to four years of college education in business, liberal arts, or any field other than engineering or the hard sciences.
  • Over eight years and up to and including ten years of related experience in GIS and database administration.
  • Experience with GIS data and GPS technology.
