About the position

The GIS Application Developer will work under limited supervision to perform independent analysis, design, implementation, modification, and upgrade of agency applications for geographic information systems (GIS) and spatial data. This role is crucial in supporting health-related Deputy areas by conducting statistical analysis, processing, and automating spatial data, as well as creating advanced cartographic products. The developer will be responsible for designing, developing, implementing, maintaining, and providing technical support for GIS and user applications assigned to support various health-related program areas and activities. Additionally, the position requires adherence to Information Technology application development standards and providing technical backup for other applications as needed. The GIS Application Developer will perform statistical analysis of spatial data, ensuring data credibility through data processing, automation, and quality checks. The role includes developing, maintaining, and monitoring spatial data services, as well as designing advanced cartographic products tailored to meet customer requirements. Acting as a technical consultant, the developer will collaborate with customers and other technology staff to ensure that applications comply with established IT standards and assist in problem resolution. Furthermore, the developer will prepare and maintain system documentation for supported applications and provide necessary administrative documentation and project communication. Other duties may be assigned as needed to support the agency's goals and objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Perform independent analysis, design, implementation, modification, and upgrade of GIS applications.
  • Conduct statistical analysis of spatial data, including data processing and automation.
  • Develop, maintain, and monitor spatial data services.
  • Design advanced cartographic products to meet customer requirements.
  • Provide technical support for GIS and user applications assigned to health-related program areas.
  • Act as a technical consultant to customers and collaborate with technology staff to ensure compliance with IT standards.
  • Prepare and maintain system documentation for supported applications.
  • Provide administrative documentation and project communication.
  • Assist with problem resolution and provide technical backup for other applications as assigned.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in geography or a related field and work experience in the development and maintenance of geographic information systems; or an associate degree in geography or a related field and expert-level work experience in the development and maintenance of geographic information systems.
  • One (1) year of relevant experience in GIS development and maintenance.
  • Portfolio of work demonstrating competency in the maintenance and development of GIS web applications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experienced with ArcGIS Enterprise.
  • Knowledge of Spatial Analysis for Public Health.
  • Familiarity with Confidential Data Management.
